BLACK SWAN (2010)

  1. BLACK SWAN You rightly focus on the powerful image at the centre of visual interest here, noting both the draw of Portman's star power (with her name privileged in the cast list), the impact of the horrific crack spoiling the porcelain perfection of her beauty and the effect of her direct gaze. You draw attention to how the visual codes denote strain and mental illness. Astute analysis of the effect of colour, in particular, the sinister use of darkness, symbolising destruction.
